You and I are in the same boat. To upgrade from your current 478 cpu, you'll need to either find a 478 EE cpu or upgrade the Entire computer to support:

Intel cpu sockets:
LGA 755 (dieing socket)
Lga 1156
Lga 1366

AMD cpu sockets:
AM2 (dieing socket)
AM2+
AM3
