What would you do in this situation?

Current specs:
- Dual core 2.66 GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2 x 1 MB L2 Cache
- 1 GB DDR2 (Max 2 GB)
- 200 GB Hard Drive

"And I play no video games on the PC. Strictly used for media. Music, Video, and crap load of pictures. Also, some programs such at MATLAB, Maple, AutoCad, etc. I use it for school, but also for "fun" with all the media."

I would upgrade the rest of the computer first.. just my $0.02

Definitely upgrade the rest of the system, while load times may be annoying they are nothing compared to the time wasted waiting for the processor to complete its workload.

Definitely upgrade the core components first, a new CPU will be like night and day.

SSD is waste if you don't have a system that can make everything else move smoothly. They are high cost and the return is for load speeds primarily, but if the system can't handle all the information loaded quickly, the loading doesn't really help anyway.
