Can you post some links of your score or the comparisons? It is hard to say why without knowing what the "others" are running.

Guesses on Reasons why:
■They are running an overclocked CPU &/or GPU giving them extra horse power.
■They are running a higher end GPU &/or dual card setups. Your 8800GT is no longer the beast it was a few years ago. Running a GTX275/ATI 4890 or high will provide a much higher score.

Having 6GB or RAM will not make a huge difference with 3DMark.

SUGGEST TO OC THE CPU TO 3.4 NOT MANY ISSUES IN DOING THIS,
CHANGE THE GRAPHICS CARD TO A 285 OR 295 ADD A SECOND HARD DRIVE AND RAID DRIVES AND THEN AD A SMALL SSD DRIVE FOR THE OPERATING SYSTEM
THIS SHOULD INCREASE SCORE DRAMATICALY

It will also increase the price by 500$.

since we dont know what hardware you are comparing your computer too , Im just going to guess and say that the low 3D mark scores are because you have a fairly low end and very old graphics card that cant compare to the power of newer models
