Hi I am about to build a server for a friend and cant find if the SuperMicro x7DBE with work with Windows Server 2008 x64 or R2.

Can anyone help

Server needed for File storage, multimedia data for a small business.
Setting it up with Domain, DHCP, RAID ect.

Getting it off AusPcMarket.com.au

Couple of other interesting fact of the system build:

4 gig RAM

2 x Intel Xeon 5405 2.00GHz 12Mb Cache FSB1333 Quad-Core Processor, socket 771 w/Intel heatsink/fan cooler

6 x 2000Gb (2TB) Western Digital Caviar Green SATA-II hard disk, 7200RPM, 32mb cache, WD20EADS Raid 5 on board raid. Possibley raid controller with battery.

APC BACK-UPS RS 1500VA 865W UPS with USB interface, 2x surge-protection outlets, 6x battery-backup outlets, IEC sockets

Thanks for any help!

SuperMicro OS Compatibility Chart shows that the x7DBE (second column) is not compatible with Windows Server 2008

Yeah I've seen that but you can still get the drivers which confuses me. The driver is for windows 2008, only windows is server 2008. The auspcmarket say it is compatible, I don't know if i should trust them cos the is a no return policy for server hardware if they are wrong.

Where are you getting drivers? The only Server 2008 driver I see available for download is the integrated graphics chipset driver (ATI ES1000). There do not appear to be drivers for the other on-board controllers (network, RAID, etc...)

If you're dead set on using Server 2008, then I'd stick with a motherboard that their compatibility chart states is compatible.

Yeah, the FAQ say that the rest of the drivers are built into Windows Server 2008. They give conflicting reports of compatiblity on the website. Nothing about Windows Server 2008 R2. I'll reassess what I'll get. Looking into other websites to source the hardware. Cheers. Anyone else that wants to chip in Thank you. I'll keep watching the thread for a couple of weeks.
