Intel 320 SSD firmware update is out

Intel has posted the firmware update for the Intel 320 series of SSDs.

This resolves, apparently, a serious error that occurs sometimes when power is unexpectedly lost. (For instance an outage or a hard reboot.)

BE FULLY BACKED UP FIRST. Better yet, clone the drive if you can.

  1. That is welcome news. :)
  2. Now we just need a Sandforce 22xx firmware update to finally solve all the BSOD issues with them...

Intel again proves why they are the most reliable SSD (IMO) by taking their one know issue and putting it to rest (hopefully for good).
  3. Yep. I'm already thinking about retiring my 160GB 320 to the laptop and getting something larger for the main computer. Maybe this winter.

New Intel 330 and 520 series should be released sometime between October 1st and the end of the year. In addition Samsung announced a new SATA 3.0 6Gb/s series.

If memory serves Intel will also be releasing a PCI-e 2.0 x4 based ssd.

Except that a number of people have said that they got the 8MB failure after installing this firmware... in some cases apparently without any kind of unusual shutdown.

So I think I'll wait for the next fix.
