've had problems with the card for a while but opted not to return it as I was a few weeks away from getting Windows 7 and I would've been way out of pocket just to get an equivalent replacement.
Anyway, W7 has not helped and it has actually made things worse, as the VPU recover function that saved me from countless resets is only included in the XP CCC. Now I have to manually switch the PC off whenever the issue raises its head.
What happens is as follows. During usage the screen will freeze, usually with small vertical rectangles dotted around the screen. The display then goes black and returns looking like this:
The screen then keeps going black and returning, with slightly different patterns like the one above. If sound is on it doesn't necessarily loop continuously on the same note, it will play normally for 5/10 seconds and then loop, play for a bit and loop again.
I know the card is a dud, just wondering if anyone else has had this experience with the same card.
I had the exact same problem...XFX gladly took my return and sent me a brand new one that works great. Had to pay for shipping and the back plate ont he new card was badly damaged when i got it, but it works great now.
That's no fair, xfx should take on that outlay, but anyway.
So i got one question now, why catalyst just show inside override option 996 mhz memory clocks if all specs about my hd4850 says 1990 or 2000 mhz.
And what it means x2 (is something about crossfire, i dont think so)
