I had a system planned out for you until I saw your monitor res.

Now we need to go a different route.

Combo: Asus 790X AM3 board AND x3 720 CPU -212
G.skill CL7 DDR3 95 307
---
TP-750 Blue 110 417
Combo: Haf 922 and Vista 64-bit 200 617
---
Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB 55 672
---
XFX 4870 1GB 814
---
Asus 22" monitor
---

That puts you at your budget mark, so you'll have to wait on an after market cooler and a CPU upgrade. However, this get's you a solid gaming system today at a good resolution.

Proximon,

Awesome! Thank you for your suggestions. I however am looking only at procuring CPU. Have 22" Acer monitor 5ms response but not 1080 capable. In the future I would like to procure a new LCD (and most likey VGA) when DX 11 is rmore readily available. Till then, I may have to wait unless a smokin deal comes along.

Antec Nine Hundred Two Case $119
ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 $109
Antec TP-750 Blue $105
AMD PII 955 BE 3.2GHz $189
OCZ Platinum AMD 4GB DDR3 CL7 1.65V 1600 $119
Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade $99

$740 spent so far

So I now have $260 left. I suppose I will need a Graphics card since I prefer not to use my old one (ATI HD3850 I think 512MB PCIE). I also need a HDD. I was looking at the Spinpoint 3 and the benchmarks were amazing for the price. How does my current set up look so far? Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance!

In 2 weeks the ATI 5700 series comes out (Oct 23). It should be down at your price point to get a DX11 capable GPU at that point. Might make sense to use the 3850 until then.

The Spinpoint F3 is the best deal in HDDs right now. WD Caviar black 640 is a good drive but not as cheap.

I would keep the 750W for future upgrades and possible SLI in the future. Will save you...
