Hi i have an old P6N SLI-FI and want to use it with an intel wolfdale E8400. My motherboard bios is at 2.5 but i need it at 2.6 (the download page actually has a bios version 2.7 but it isnt listed on the CPU support page)

http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1141

I am trying to use the 2.7 bios.

I tried to make both a USB installer and a live cd installer and neither work. The bios tries to boot the disk and it fails. I tried to boot a linux disk and that worked fine so i know the mobo is really trying to boot the disk but doesnt think it is bootable.

I used nero and just made a data disk with the .exe file and the .270 file.

The guide here indicates that should work.

I dont see how i am supposed to update the bios if it refuses to boot the disk. thanks for the help.

Did you try LiveUpdate from MSI, seems like a far easier solution to me. My Dell though old lets me update it by running it off the OS and then installing when I reboot. Otherwise clear the CMOS and try again.

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

+1 to mister g, for people that don't have experience updating the BIOS with a boot drive, the best way is software, in this case, the Live Update of MSI. Is very easy to use, and do all the work for you.
