Need some help here. I just built a new system:

Win 7 Ult.
ASUS P8Z68 V-Pro MB
Intel i7 2600k
16gb Corsair DDR3 Mem.
Intel 510 120gb SSD (Operating Sys. & Programs)

Everything was SMOKING FAST running just like that with only the SSD attached. Decided that I wanted to get a new big HDD to use for storage of pics, music, etc.. I got the Seagate Barracuda XT 3TB HDD and installed it into the unused sata6 port on the board under the SSD, I did not install it on the Marvell sata6 ports. Powered on and used windows 7 to install and format the new HDD. No problem, the computer is seeing the new disc and all 3TB, made new folders and able to transfer data to the new drive. Thought there were no issues until I restarted the computer and it starts pausing at the "starting windows" logo screen for about 50 seconds and then proceeds to let me login with my username and pass. and boots right up into windows fast. It will do this EVERY time. So i decided to disable the new HDD in the device manager and restart, BAM it was as fast as before, so I enabled the HDD and again the 50 second pause.

Can ANYONE tell me why this is happening on boot when this drive gets enabled? I have been searching forum posts and google ALL day with no luck. TIA!! :-)

Verify that your SSD has 1st boot priority. See page 3-2 of your motherboard manual.

Yes I have verified that the SSD does has the 1st boot priority...

Only thing else I can think of is to connect the HDD to one of the 4 Blue Intel SATA 3.0 Gb/s ports (SATA3G_3 - SATA3G_6).

I don't want to slow down the drive by putting it on the 3gb/s ports when the HDD supports 6gb/s. There has got to be a setting that is wrong or something turned on/off causing this. BTW, everything is in AHCI mode... Someone has had to have this problem when adding a storage drive to the system... :(

A SATA 2.0 (3Gb/s) port supports data transfer rates up to 300 MB/s.
A SATA 3.0 (6Gb/s) port supports data transfer rates up to 600 MB/s.

A single SATA3 (6Gb/s) HDD cannot spin fast enough to saturate a SATA2 port, let alone a SATA3 port.

Unless you have 3 or more SATA3 HDDs in RAID you will not slow down the drive by connecting it to a SATA2 port.

Wow.. Really??? I had no clue of that. So then spending the extra and getting a Sata 3.0 (6Gb/s) HDD was all for nothing? ughhh :pt1cable:

Unfortunately, yes. Single Hard Drives may be SATA3 "Compatible" but not SATA3 "Capable". :D

I have since tried hooking the HDD up to the SATA3G port and the pause still remains... It will ONLY go away if the drive is disabled completely... Ughh Frustrating!! :pfff:

Sorry, don't know what else to suggest. Hopefully other Forum members will be able to resolve this issue for you.
