Just a quick question. What time of the year do prices generally start falling for PC components? I want to upgrade my CPU and graphics card but I can hold on for a while if prices are likely to fall any time soon.
There's no set time of year... prices generally fall when the next generation of that product is released, although there can be a delay of some time. What system do you currently have? CPU, GPU, MOBO, etc.

I'm pretty sure prices usually fall just before Christmas to encourage people to make purchases, I'd just like to know when.

Intel price drops are usually in February. GFX card makers who like to release new generation products right before XMas will keep prices high for a month or so after XMas. Waiting sometimes works in reverse though. My son has a build and he's waiting for October 22nd so he don't have to install the OS twice....(he has the 90 day free RTM but doesn't wanna be bothered setting the machine up twice).
Since he made his wish list on newegg:
RAM went from $204 to $212
(2) HSF fans went from $7.99 to $14.99
Of course his big hope was that the introduction of the 58xx would drop the price of q GTX295 but nVidia hasn't felt the need to do that which I don't expect they will do till they "lose the crown" so to speak.
However now that someone's hacked the driver and you can play w/ PhysX on a ATI cards, he's thinking twin 5850's and a 3rd card dedicated to PhysX.
He's main focus as far as what he is looking forward to playing game wise is Batman.
