Obviously a quad, Most probably an I5

I know more AMD stuff so there will be quite a few responses with links within the next few minutes. ;)

If you roll the dice and fall on a hotel on park avenue... it's my best seller.

Athlon X4 -630 = 112$

or

PhenomX4 955

Asus M4A785-MEVO = 95$

I5 = Best performance for your use

Athlon630... best bang for the buck for your use

Phenom955... right in between but the I5 takes it.

Feel free to disregard all my AMD gibberish... The I5 will make you very happy.

Either an AMD 955 or an Intel i5-750. They'll be exactly the same in games. The i5 will net you 5% better performance for non-gaming applications, with the exception of a select few programs.

It depends on the PSU brand. If it's generic, then no, probably not.

I'm not sure about the i5's requirements on the PSU, but from what I've seen they can be picky about RAM, something about the voltage I believe.

I would also second the notion that in your situation an i5 would be better. If all you were going to do is game then the AMD is usually a better route, but not for programming.
