Clear a crc error

Hi,

I am using an old laptop IDE hdd as a USB external drive. I think I have induced a crc error by trying to upload a large file to the drive. The drive does not appear in Device Manager or Computer Management. I have tried several "recovery" programmes but no success to date. Is there any way to recover the drive for further use. Data recovery is not an issue. Thank you

How does the external drive (IDE HDD in external usb adapter) get power? Is it spinning up ? Is the drive firmly plugged into the USB adapter? Is the USB adatper firmly plugged into PC. Can you remove the USB connector then put it in a different USB port ?? If so is the drive detected?
