Sounds like your computer is locked up, everything except the mouse cursor.

We would need to know a great deal more to help you.

sometimes my computer locks up when idle

It usually works fine, but if its idle for a while, it takes time to respond, but sometimes it locks up. I cant do anything but move the cursor around, and go to MY COMPUTER, in the drives, etc.

I recently got 2 sticks of 2GB 800Mhz transcend rams, core2duo e8400, xfx 750i sli mobo few months back, and i got the annoying zone alarm firewall if it helps.

I thought my pc was slowing down so i reinstalled vista, probably getting the lock ups after the install.

My specs:
C2D E8400 (stock hsf)
XFX 750I SLI MOBO
2x2GB TRANSCEND DDR2 800MHz RAM
2x SATA HDD
750W DELTA PSU
XFX GTX 260(STANDARD)
THERMALTAKE M5 CASE

Wow, a real Delta PSU? That's a first. They mostly make PSUs for other companies.

So does this lock up only happen after the screensaver kicks in?

solid delta.

never thought of that, the screensaver was always on before it happened. so... anything?

It's likely a sleep mode issue.
