Pata or sata

i have a laptop toshiba approx. 8 years old. hard drive was fried. i bought sata hdd but its connection isn't even close.the old hdd has 2 rows of pins.the new or sata hdd has 3 inline rows of flat contacts.my hdd is a toshiba hdd2189 mk6025gas. can anyone tell me what i need, and how can you tell a sata from a pata? thanks

Your old HDD description sounds like a pata. Your new drive is most likely to be sata, but your description of 3 inline rows of flat contact does not sound like any connection I know of.

Get rid of the space to view the photo. I need to put a space there or else the o and : combination turns into a smiley.

You need a converter for sata drive on a pata port, but I doubt it will fit in the confined space of a laptop. So you will need to buy a new pata hdd.
