i am going to be upgrading my video down the track and i just wanted to get some info on what i can get.

currently i have a q6600 @stock 2.4 ( to hot where i live and the room to o.c)

4 gig ddr2 ram 800mhz ( 4 1 gig sticks)

550 huntkey power supply

2 system fans

Asus vw222 22 inch moniter ( max resolution 1680x1050 )

and my current video card is hd4850

i was think of going to the 5850 or 5770 now i need to no if my cpu can handle either of these cards and the performance cis a improvement from my current card and will it bottleneck?

is the power supply enough? 5850 requires 500watt i think the 5770 is the same or maybe it is 450

i also am keeping the option open for a 4890 in case my system cant handle either of those cards(not shure if it can handle that either lol)

but i would like to get one that is direct x 11 without having to upgrade my pc

thx

Go ahead and get the 5870, but get an excellent afermarket-cooler for your CPU. There will be some small bottlenecking as it is (stock), but a slight (3ghz) OC will fix that.

Throw that POS power supply away before it explodes......seriously this is the first thing I read when I googled it http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/754
They tried to pay the site to take down the reviews after multiple failures.
Get a QUALITY PSU from Corsair, Antec ect. Then get an aftermarket CPU cooler and some good thermal paste. I bet with a good cooler you could overclock to 3/3.2 and still have the same temps as stock no matter ambient.
Then get the 5870 and enjoy your nice faster STABLE computer :D

^I agree.
You need to get rid of that PSU first.

OC your CPU and get 5870...

Though it will be an overkill for your resolution...

5850 would do for you and yes, buy psu. simple 500wat from corsair or ocz even will be enough.

yep 5850 or 5870 depending on your budget

ya i prob will nee to get a new psu lol

i cant afford to get a new cpu cooler atm and i never o.c before so that isnt a option

i got some big cooler in there atm cause the cpu was running a bit high at stock so i dont think o.c is a good idea

i think i wil go for the 5850 and get a new PSU will that be ok with a q6600 at stock?

btw i dont have a huntkey green 550 i have a v-power 550 still not the best psu but it isnt the exploding ones lol

Your PSU should be fine, if it doesn't explode. Could you post how much amperage is on the 12-volt rail?

ok so i done some reading at my local shops website and this is what im gonna do

http://www.pacstarcomputer.com.au/ [...] uctID=5518 getting that psu

changing the case to http://www.pacstarcomputer.com.au/ [...] uctID=3806

or the antec 900 2 if they dont got this in stock

and this cpu coooler http://www.pacstarcomputer.com.au/ [...] uctID=6230

and i am gonna ask them to o.c it to 3.0 since i have no idea about doing that lol

all that is gonna cost $470 bucks

and when the 5850 drops a bit in price i wil put it in with the cpu at 3ghz or 3.2

it says theres is 18amps on the two 12v rails , but whenever i turn of my pc or put it to sleep and turn it back on the power supply makes weird noise tho it has been running fine for 2 years i think it is time to change it to what i listed above

You will be very happy with all the new parts.....all very high quality. The case and PSU should last you through several builds.

Dont be so quick to pay someone to overclock. Really the whole Core2Duo and Quad lines are very easy to do yourself.

A very good guide is here http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] uals-guide

Also if you install the cooler make sure to use a high quality thermal paste like Artic Silver 5 ( not sure whats available in Australia ) and follow the directions to apply it closely.
