P6X58D Premium and 12Gb TR3X6G1600C8D

Anyone using P6X58D Premium with 12Gb TR3X6G1600C8D (6 sticks) ?

The Asus docs say only up to 8G (4 sticks) are supported for this card, but am wondering if anyone has tried 12Gb?

I'm thinking of getting this board and already have 12Gb of TR3X6G1600C8D.

Thanx!

With the ASUS P6X58D Premium, and all if not most X58 motherboards, the maximum amount of memory that can be handled is 24GB. I think you got a bit confused, I'm pretty sure ASUS meant four sticks of 8GB RAM is the max amount memory it will handle - 24GB, it should be able to handle 6x2GB and 6x4GB as well.
From the ASUS website itself:
Quote:
6 x DIMM, Max. 24 GB, DDR3 2000(O.C.)*/1600/1333/1066 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory

If you want the website, here it is:
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=wurRaDZ8lo4Ckukj&...

So don't worry, you'll be fine.

Just wondering though, what happened to your X58A-UD3(R)? Was it because of that XMP memory profiles thing? Or you just didn't like it? :D

You can find in some of the reviews of that mobo in newegg.com, that many people has installed 12GB without problem. But also, you can find people that have problems with only 6GB, so, The mobo isn't limited to 8GB, just you need follow the manual for install in the proper way all the 12GB RAM.

Asus' QVL list of supported memory shows it only support 8Gb of this particular memory. This was confirmed by their tech support:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.

I am afraid to say that TR3X6G1600C8D is only supported up to 8G at most according to the QVL.

Can I suggest to you a Mushkin Readline 1600 CL6?, is a very good RAM.

Looks interesting, thanks for the suggestion.

If I do get new memory I'll probably get something that runs at 1.5 v though as I've been so put off by my current mobo's voltage problems.

I just assembled my new PC and it screams, BUT it's only recognizing 8GB of ram in BIOS and OS rather than the installed 12GB. In the BIOS the RAM was registering at 1066 so I set it to 1600MHz. I update the BIOS to the latest non-beta release.

Maybe I should try the beta? The mention "Improve memory compatibility".

OS = Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Mobo = Asus P6X58D Premium
CPU = Intel Core i7 920
RAM = CORSAIR XMS3 12GB (6 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
HDD = Intel 80GB SSD SATA II
PS = Kingwin 1000W Modular
