Strangely High Frames In COD4 8600GT

Hey there, I have quite an odd question.

I'm with a friend right now playing COD4 LAN. I have a GTX 260 graphics card and my friend has an 8600gt 256MB graphics card which he says is underclocked because of compatibility issues.
My friend (playing with everything on max) has been getting anywhere from 35-75fps on big maps such as Crossfire. I thought that was a bit strange because when I had an 8600GT without the underclock I was only getting a max of 40fps on small maps like Shipment. Also with my GTX 260 I have been getting a constant 75-76fps. Surely he shouldn't be getting such high frames with an underclocked 8600GT especially when I'm only getting slightly higher with a GTX 260.

Does this seem strange or am I just not thinking straight after playing games for the past few hours without many brakes?

probs need a break, ha ha :p

anyway, what is his computer specs and what were your specs. hardware makes all the difference. also cpu, if he had a high clock on it or he had more cores than you, then he would probably get more frames, even under clocked gpu.
also, what settings were you playing at?

I cant say for sure but you cant get higher frames than the card is possible to produce.
There can be few things that can lead to the things you experience

1. His settings are not on high or highest- May be you think you set it but its not or something happened and game reversed it (to test that make 2 screenshots from both comps on same thing)

2. Its possible the game when you played it was CPU limited with our 8600 dropping to 40fps because of it, and if your pal have better processor to be able to get higher frames

3. The reason you both get 75fps could be that the game is limited to that, its CPU limited to that , or You both turned on VSync and your monitors are set to 75Hz

Thats what I can think of to give such results but for 1 I am sure

Its IMPOSSIBLE for his card to crunch higher frames than yours on SAME graphic Details and if your other parts of the configurations are similar or same (like CPU and ram and other stuff)

Possible reasons :

- Not totally on high settings.
- Resolution (Your on 1080p, he's on 1024x768)
- Besides, the 8600GT isn't very slow especially the gDDR3 versions.
- COD4 isn't very hardware intensive, it's actually playable on 800x600 on mid - high settings on the Radeon HD3200.

OK. Haha, I'm not jealous of his 8600GT. But I was just wondering what the possible reasons were.

I'm pretty sure everything was on max and I have a faster CPU than him.

Specs:

Mine:
Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 @ 2.93ghz
4GB 1066mhz DDR2
GTX 260
1440 x 900

His:
Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 @ 2.40ghz
2GB 400mhz DDR2
8600GT
1680 x 1050

"3. The reason you both get 75fps could be that the game is limited to that, its CPU limited to that , or You both turned on VSync and your monitors are set to 75Hz "

This might be the reason...

Your card deserves more than what you are getting...
Disable Vsync.
