Buying a new laptop that doesn't have a blu ray player option.

Can I burn blu rays onto a 1TB harddrive on my desktop, and then hook that hard drive up to my laptop and watch blu rays?

The correct term is "rip".

You can rip blu-ray movies onto your PC as long as that has a blu-ray drive. You need to set up a network so that your desktop and laptop can share files.

To set up a network go to Control Panel \ Network and Internet \ Network and Sharing Center to begin.

If you are going to rip blu-ray movies just to watch it on your laptop, then after you setup your network create a shared folder on your notebook to where you can rip your movie to. That way you don't have to rip the movie to your desktop, then spend time transfering 25GB - 50GB of data to your laptop.
