According to this find off google.ca
http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-MSI/P6NGM-FIH_%28MS-7366%29.html

You can upgrade to a much better cpu or a better videocard or both.

CPU Upgrade will make the pc faster for loading applications and very little for gaming considering the videocard.
Videocard upgrade will make the games run a lot better, but any new videocard that costs over 120$ might start to be bottlenecked by the cpu...

3 gigs of ram is just perfect.

Here are some options.

Intel Q9400 Need Bios Update 190$

Intel Q8400 Also need bios update 160$

Videocard

Radeon 5770 1 gig 155$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102864&cm_re=radeon_hd_5770-_-14-102-864-_-Product

Radeon 4670 79$ fanless
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131171&cm_re=radeon_4670-_-14-131-171-_-Product

Geforce 250GTS
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121333&cm_re=250GTS-_-14-121-333-_-Product

Keep in mind that you should make sure to have a MINIMUM of 500W Power Supply from a decent brand (Antec, Corsair, Thermaltake...)

If you have the budget I recommend Q8400 CPU + Radeon 5770
You can then milk the pc for quite a long time depending on your standards.

With little budget a radeon 5770
without any budget a Radeon 4670

This is the LGA775 Powerhouse of intel... the performance gain will make the PC last quite a bit longer. Q9550 250$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115041&cm_re=Q9550-_-19-115-041-_-Product

A good videocard XFX Radeon 5770 1Gig 180$

If your budget is 800 you can even add a 1.5 Terrabyte harddrive...
At that budget instead of getting just CPU, you can get Motherboard I5-750 and DDR3 Ram

Normally I would agree that socket 775 is dead, for new builds I wouldnt recommend socket 775. However if there is a chance that the threadstarter can use his existing motherboard and memory and save money he might be better off financially. Performance wise it will not make much diference.

Edit: Saying that though, the threadstarter could probably sell his current rig on eBay and put the profit towards the i3 build like you suggested or a AMD build.

AMD build=?

i3 build=?

i dont know all these :pt1cable:

MSI Website, directly to the list of P6NGM-Something motherboard support pages.

You have an MSI P6NGM-Something according to your first post, but you can confirm this by running CPUID

If that is really what you have, it's still a fair board.
