hello everybody. i need to have a better computer for gaming. i don't know if i should opgrade my own, or buy a new one my specs are: Motherboard: MS-7366 Graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GS CPU: Intel core 2 duo E4500 RAM: 3gb ddr2 ram thanks for the help
You can upgrade to a much better cpu or a better videocard or both.
CPU Upgrade will make the pc faster for loading applications and very little for gaming considering the videocard.
Videocard upgrade will make the games run a lot better, but any new videocard that costs over 120$ might start to be bottlenecked by the cpu...
Normally I would agree that socket 775 is dead, for new builds I wouldnt recommend socket 775. However if there is a chance that the threadstarter can use his existing motherboard and memory and save money he might be better off financially. Performance wise it will not make much diference.
Edit: Saying that though, the threadstarter could probably sell his current rig on eBay and put the profit towards the i3 build like you suggested or a AMD build.
