DVD/RW Problems

I am using Windows XP PRO operating system and have recently encountered problems w/ DVD. I cannot write and drive does not recognize blank DVDs. When I look at the drive in explorer it appears as a DVD/RW drive, as soon as I load a blank DVD it appears as CD drive only.
I have tried Microsoft support - Mr. Fix It - results "This device is not capable of writing"
I have tried Regedit - removing upper and lower filters - no luck
Any Suggestions? Thanks

Try rolling back the driver in device manager. A windows update might have thought it had a better driver.
