Added RAM to old system and windows score goes down?!

Hi guys, I got an old computer with a MSI K8T-Neo FISR ver 1 mobo that had 2x512MB DDR400 SDRAM installed. I have a 3rd slot and wanted to up my RAM to run win7 instead of vista. I picked up a 1GB stick of DDR400 SDRAM (like old RAM, corsair brand). Thing is, my system appears to recognize it-i went from 1-->2GB but my system performance score went down! My limiting factor used to be video card by a bit (3.0 score), but now its RAM limited at score of 2.3! What happened? How do I fix it??
