I am partial to Gigabyte motherboards. However, if the choice of motherboards really does matter to you, do not get the Core2 system.

I would probably just replace the AMD motherboard.

well, i don't like both boards.

If someone has a suggestion on a board that has, support for the AMD 64 X2 6400+(or the Core 2 DUO) and one PCI-E x1 and two PCI-E X16.

OR has a few has some links to comparison on ASUS/MSI/GIGABYTE/OTHER.

Dose DDR3 make a big difference to the AMD AM3 platform? i found this:

-ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI
-ASUS EAH4890/HTDI/1GD5 Radeon HD 4890 1GB
-OCZ Special Ops Urban Elite 4GB DDR3 8-8-8-24
-AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition

$628 shipped/tax.

PROS:
-Future poof (er)
-Newer AM3
-ASUS MOBO
-Better GPU

CONS:
-Price $228 over what i wish to pay
-Quad screen will have to wait in till DEC or JAN

Is there a problem with having the same model card but one it 'older' then the other? i will be crossfire'ing them to try it out.(or when i sell it.)

Why don't you find a combo deal? For example.

$164.00

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Comb [...] mbo.273426

Hanns G 22 inch monitor for 150

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824254035

ATI 512 MB 4850 for 89 bucks after rebate and free shipping.

Should put you a little over 400, but in that budget, you've got a budget quad, a 4850, so reasonably good video. If you want to spend more there, look at a 4870 or maybe the new 5xxx series. And a 22 inch monitor. I can vouch for hanns g as I've got one of their 22 inchers myself and I like it. It's been decent for nearly the past year.

But don't think you'll fit much more into 400 bucks. Also, I know the 620 is a weaker quad, but if you can overclock it a bit, it may be a budget beast. You may want to spend a little more and spring for a 720 black edition with unlocked multiplier, but you did specify a quad. On the AM3, don't know that the ddr3 gives a big performance advantage, but with an AM3 board you may be a little more future proof, so if you would like to drop in a faster quad later on, you might be more likely to be able to do that down the road.

May check out newegg.ca and tigerdirect.ca. They should have some similar combos, however there may be a price difference with you being from Canada and all, but definitely some deals to be had certainly.
