Dilemma on new build or a used comp.

Well my system mobo crapped out on me today, so i have two choices for what i need. I like to have a quad screen setup (x3-LCD and one 32" TV.)

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: ASAP I'm using a backup computer,(P4 2.4/1G) and I'm going nuts. $400 MAX Shipping/tax not included in this.

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Everything. I had a ASUS M2NPV-VM, so something better.

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Keyboard, mouse, speakers, screen, case, software.

-2X-2X2G kit's Patriot Viper DDR2 PC2-8500 1066MHz 5-5-5-15

-Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250G

-Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition ADX6400IAA6CZ (AM2)

-Sigma Monster SP-1000C

, Tyan, Supermirco, or any others that are just as good or better. Seagate HDD with the 5 years.(or better, i dislike the WD.)

OVERCLOCKING: Yes SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No i need (want) an quad screen setup.

More about dilemma build comp
  1. I am partial to Gigabyte motherboards. However, if the choice of motherboards really does matter to you, do not get the Core2 system.

I would probably just replace the AMD motherboard.
  2. well, i don't like both boards.

If someone has a suggestion on a board that has, support for the AMD 64 X2 6400+(or the Core 2 DUO) and one PCI-E x1 and two PCI-E X16.

OR has a few has some links to comparison on ASUS/MSI/GIGABYTE/OTHER.
  3. Dose DDR3 make a big difference to the AMD AM3 platform? i found this:

    -ASUS EAH4890/HTDI/1GD5 Radeon HD 4890 1GB
-OCZ Special Ops Urban Elite 4GB DDR3 8-8-8-24
-AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition

    $628 shipped/tax.

    -Future poof (er)
    -Newer AM3
    -Better GPU

-Price $228 over what i wish to pay
-Quad screen will have to wait in till DEC or JAN

Is there a problem with having the same model card but one it 'older' then the other? i will be crossfire'ing them to try it out.(or when i sell it.)
  4. Why don't you find a combo deal? For example.

    Hanns G 22 inch monitor for 150

ATI 512 MB 4850 for 89 bucks after rebate and free shipping.

Should put you a little over 400, but in that budget, you've got a budget quad, a 4850, so reasonably good video. If you want to spend more there, look at a 4870 or maybe the new 5xxx series. And a 22 inch monitor. I can vouch for hanns g as I've got one of their 22 inchers myself and I like it. It's been decent for nearly the past year.

But don't think you'll fit much more into 400 bucks. Also, I know the 620 is a weaker quad, but if you can overclock it a bit, it may be a budget beast. You may want to spend a little more and spring for a 720 black edition with unlocked multiplier, but you did specify a quad. On the AM3, don't know that the ddr3 gives a big performance advantage, but with an AM3 board you may be a little more future proof, so if you would like to drop in a faster quad later on, you might be more likely to be able to do that down the road.
  5. Sorry about the mix up, i want a quad monitor setup(well triple LCD and one 32" HDTV.)

I have all the LCD's. i need, two 22" LG that where given to me, they work OK.

also I am in Canada, that combo is not available to me.
  6. May check out newegg.ca and tigerdirect.ca. They should have some similar combos, however there may be a price difference with you being from Canada and all, but definitely some deals to be had certainly.
