Hi, I am thinking of purchasing a high resolution (2,560x1,600 pixels) monitor, as an upgrade (I currently own a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW, which I like, but its max resolution is only 1680X1050), I was thinking of getting a 19xx resolution one, but I would like to have it a bit more...."future proof".
I was thinking about a Samsung one, since I never had problems with their products, and find them to be very reliable.

Does anyone know of a particular model that would be worth recommending? I am interested in a 16:9 ratio monitor, since the current one that I have is 16:10, and I had some slight issues with that particular aspect ratio.

Would I see a lot of a difference going from 1680 to 1,920x1,080 / 1,920x1,200's?
are the 2560 monitors worth getting, or should i go with a 19xx one?

My budget : around $300 ($400 at absolute max...if i could find a 2560 ish resolution for that price point)

P.S. and any suggestions on stands...vertical ones? since i would not be able to use both monitors horizontally side by side, because of the way my desk is built, it has 2 side "shelves" )

Thank You for any thoughts, suggestions.

All 30" LCD monitors are 16:10 and all are out of your price range.

A good starting point is $1,000.

I don't care about the monitor's size , but about its resolution.

2560 resolution comes only on 30" models.....1920 comes on everything from 15" to 27". All things being equal, the image will look sharper on the smaller screen.

Just to clarify my build has a 4870 Toxic OC (so its more comparable to 4890 specs wise), core 2 quad Q6600, at stock speeds for now, sicne i never had a need to oc it(2.44GHz), 4 gb ram(low latency) Asus p5w dh deluxe

so far i can max out every game i have on 1680x1050 resolution.

I was wondering maybe someone could upload a screen-shot for me of a game in 1680, and in 1920 resolution to compare them, so i could see the difference.

And you are going to view this on a 1680 resolution monitor to compare ? That "ain't gonna woik". I suggest you go visit a BestBuy or other local store.

Look at it his way:

1680 x 1050 = 1.764 million pixels
1920 x 1200 = 2.304 million pixels

30% more pixels on screen

which would be better a 1920x1200 or a 1920x1080 for gaming (i know one s a 16:10, other 16:9 ratio)?
I mostly play strategies, and some shooters Im not looking for a bigger monitor, since i sit quite close to mine now as it is(unless i can find a good monitor mount to set it up securely to my desk to push it back a bit.

Yeah only get 1920x1080 if you plan on watching lots of hd content.

Would the HD image be distorted if i would watch it on a 1920x1200 monitor?

If you are referring to HD video, then no. There will be black bar top and bottom.

As for images, if you plan on using a 1920x1080 image on a 1920x1200 monitor for wallpaper, then simply set the wallpaper to be centered.

Best thing about 1920 x 1200 ..... when you can play games at 1920 x 1080 or watch 1080 content, you can do it in windowed mode .... leaves you access to your task bar, so don't have to alt tab (which doesn't work in many games I find).
