Newegg's been out for a while. Nothing on Amazon. Zipzoomfly is out. Tiger Direct is out. Does anyone have any ideas, or just wait a few weeks for supply?

Thanks

Powercolor HD 5850 available here for $245. Get it while they're in:

@Flowers88: thats a million dollar question. I'm hunting for a 5850 too, but can't seem to find them anywhere. Tigerdirect and Amazon had a Diamond HD 5850 for a while, but I hesitated as I wanted Sapphire. If I find a Diamond now, I'll take it since they're still in reference stage so brand really doesn't matter at this point.

PS - If HD 5850s are available for a while more, I'll probably just take the GTX 275. I don't see Dx 11 games becoming mainstream for about 8-10 more months.

Reply to xbonez

except 5850 is best price to performance to price to power consumption.

good luck m8 :D 5850 is also 1.5 times faster than GTX275.

5850 is also the best card available now :D

correct me if im wrong

Reply to rescawen

Well technically, the best single GPU card would be the 5870, but the 5850 offers the best price/performance ratio.

Reply to bmurray

I'd just wait it out. I managed to snipe a 5850 last week off the egg. Wasn't going to buy anywhere else, don't like to pay taxes if I don't have to. Really enjoying it so far.

I'll just keep my eyes out it looks like. I suppose I'm used to being able to pay 20-30 more if availability is low, not simply "unavailable." GL everyone on sniping one : )

I don't know exactly what time the egg posts their new stock, buy try popping on at say just after midnight and see of you can sniper one.

Jack, I refreshed the page for the 5850's on the egg pretty much all day. The Diamond 5850 came into stock at about 7pm, and five minutes later the HIS 5850 came into stock, HIS being cheaper I pulled the trigger on it. I think the time they post is random, or at least it seems that way from my experience. If I were you Flowers, I'd definitely check as periodically as you can.

They ship to the US too. I was tempted to buy the sapphire 5850 from them, as it is the one I've been looking for, but shipping was going to cost $30 so I guess I'll just wait to order it from within the states.

Reply to prunestida

I take it Prunestida doesn't live in the US, hence the high shipping cost.

The search continues. I snapped up one yesterday only to be sent an email by customer service later on that they had oversold and had to cancel my order. Keeping an eye out again for one that isn't $50-60 overpriced. If it wasn't for the noise factor, it makes the 5870 look more appealing @ ~375 compared to 5850's now at ~300-330 :p

Reply to Flowers88

@flowers: ideally you should be paying 280 bucks approx for the 5850 but if you've resigned to paying 300-330, you can get it from extreme-pc.ca incl. shipping. The great thing is, they're selling Sapphire cards which are among the best

Reply to xbonez

@xbonez, do you mean you should be paying 280 bucks for the 5850?

Reply to jtballer

Whoops, my bad. Thats supposed to be 280.

Amazon.com prices (includes free shipping):

Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 $ 259.99
XFX RADEON HD 5850 $ 259.99
Visiontek RADEON HD 5850 $ 259.99
Powercolor RADEON HD 5850 $ 269.99

Newegg.com Prices

ASUS EAH5850/G/2DIS/1GD5 Radeon HD 5850 $259.99
XFX HD-585A-ZNFC Radeon HD 5850 $289.99
POWERCOLOR AX5850 1GBD5-MDH Radeon HD 5850 $279.99

So, when availability is not a problem, yes, you should be paying $280 tops for the 5850. Since, availability is very restricted, the few stores that have the 5850 as of now are overpricing it to $300+.

You can get the Sapphire Hd5870 from here, but its expensive. 410 bucks pus about 25 for shipping.

Received an auto-notify email from Newegg for Asus 5850, but sold out according to the website.

I guess I got lucky and grabbed one of the last few from ZZF.

XFX HD 5850 still available here for 289.99, but shipping is expensive

Just got a Newegg auto notify on both the 5850 and 5870. I happened to be sitting here when they arrived...went directly to newegg to place order...they were already sold out.

Come on! It was a matter of seconds, and already gone!?!?! Maybe I'll get one before flipping 2010....

lol..anyways, keep looking for them. Newegg is probably not your best chance because of its popularity. The best way to get it is do a Google Product search. It'll show you vendor ratings also, so make sure you buy from someone reliable.

I wonder when the prices will start dropping. Glad you got your hands on one, but I got my HIS 5850 for $260 off the egg right before it became a deactivated item about two weeks ago. So a shame about the markup.

Really want to add another in for crossfire.

I got my Sapphire HD5870 today from ExtremePC(Canada). It took a couple of weeks, but at least I got it. :kaola: I will warn you guys though. If you do order from ExtremePC, you may have to wait a bit. They have a pretty big wait list right now. They just got a shipment of 5850's and 5870's in today, and they will be getting another next monday.(According to the forum moderator)

PS: The price has now been adjusted. So it is now higher. My card cost me $430 with shipping and tax, so I was one of the lucky ones.

Has anyone seen a press release or something from ati stating when they'd estimate retailers would have a consistent stock of 5 series cards?

Everyone is still sold out and ebay shows 5850's going for 450 bucks easy....

Reply to savage308

Just got an asus 5850 off newegg today, but i was watching all day. I know it says the powercolor one is coming instock soon and the diamond one is coming in stock the 23rd, it took me the better part of the last week to track one down so best of luck. Got a message from amazon saying the xfx one would not be in stock before january.

All the 5850s in the market are reference cards, so brand is really not that important. The only reason you would worry about the brand for a reference card is if you ever happen to need their customer service. And as Powercolor goes, I don't have any personal experience, but I haven't heard anything too bad about them.

If you can't wait for one, or don't have time to check the egg for availability it may be worth it. I'm planning on crossfiring mine when the prices drop. Tech depreciates rather rapidly, so it seems rather foolish to pay almost $100 more now than what it was at launch, and what it will be in a few months time.

Well unfortunatley you will have to wait at least till Fermi is released cause to be honest the 5XXX series will not come down in price anytime soon. Not all cards go down in price as time goes by, look at the 200 series, same price for over a year and still no signs of a price drop... You also have to take into consideration that if the 3XX series is not up to par vs. what ATI has to offer, prices will go up, not down....

The 5850 at 350.00$ is priced just right due to most e-tailors are selling them for around 320.00/330.00$ shipped... paying 20 bucks more will not hurt anyone....
