Intel IGPs are crap when it comes to gaming, dont even try. Just get a cheap card like an HD 4650 from ATI, it will perform worlds better than any intel IGP.

They do not lie.

I tested out red orchestra which is an old game based on old tech and at 12 x 8 resolution on all high the fps was about 15 or their abouts. On the other hand even something as weak as the ATi3650 got 30-40+.

Get a HD 3300, I'm at 40-60fps on low-med settings everywhere except dalaran and the odd instance.

World of Warcraft will run fine on the Intel IGP.

You might have to run the program at lower settings, abet with a little lagg.

I play Dungeons and Dragons Online on my AMD 690G IGP and the game runs fine, just a little slow.

It's ok for RPG games like World of Warcraft and older fps games like Counterstrike. Just don't attempt to run newer fps games. They won't work.

^ That is a games list to give you an idea of the types of games you can play, keep in mind your IGP is more powerful than the one mentioned.

However, a cheap card like the HD 4670 will allow you to play the game more smoothly if you have a desktop.

If you have a laptop you are a tad out of luck.

Depends.

If the OP already has an Intel platform with motherboard and CPU it would be foolhardy to upgrade both motherboard and CPU for an incremental boost in fps.

A discrete card would be better in that case.

Hoever, if the OP hasn't built the system yet, the HD 3300 would make reasonable sense.

you can see that the X1250(the IGP from the 690 chipset) is actually two tiers above the GMA X4500, the only difference between the X4500 and the X4500HD is a bit of hardware acceleration for media formats.
