Can I use my wd passport to restore after hp system recovery?

I need to do a system recovery on my hp pavillion with windows xp.
I have backed up files on my WD passport.
Can I still retrive data from it after system recovery.

Use the WD Passport to do a 'System Restore'. All your data (if you have backed up the data drive if separate) will also be restored. The format of your data in the Backup drive (WD Passport) is not in an easily recognizable manner.

In order to be able to easily recover data from the WD drive, save the data by copying it to the WD drive. Just copy entire directories along with all the contents.
