Can you use on-board video and a PCI-E dual video card together?

I have been told that you cannot use onboard video and a PCI-E video card together. Basically, I want to use 3 monitors, 1 from the onboard and 2 from the pci-e. I was told that the PCI-E will automatically disable the on-board and that I cannot use it.

Was I told a bunch of BS?

hi mbcrump,

similar with my question to these folks couple days back...but apparently it is doable.
Even with ATI you can hybrid-crossfire between the AMD 785 or AMD 790 chipset with HD 3000-4000 series video card. I don't know how it will perform though.

Answering your question, yes, you can do 3 monitors 1 using onboard and 2 via PCI-e

Good question,
i have never done it as well, however from the reading, you may have to use same on-board graphic vendor with the graphic card...
GeForce on board with GeForce PCIe card, ATI Radeon on board with ATI Radeon PCIe card...

you may have to read the manufacture website in detail, for the motherboard and graphic card you are interested in...
