Memory Configuration (DDR2)

Wondering if anyone knows how/if this is possible.

I have 2 512mb sticks of DDR2 ram running duel channel. I have come across a 2gb stick. Can I do this:

------- <-512 MB
------- <-2GB

------- <-512 MB
-------

or

------ <-2GB
------ <-512MB

------
------ <512MB

Not sure if it will work and if it does is one way more beneficial than the other? Was hoping someone had experience with this before I started pulling my ram out.
