I have a HP laptop with windows XP professional. I recently had a problem that the laptop wouldnt fully boot, it would get stuck at the loading screen.
I could boot it in safe mode and found that I had a problem with my CA antivirus. I have uninstalled this and the laptop will now boot normally.
The only problem is the wireless connection says its connected and I have even plugged in a ethernet cable but I just cant connect to the internet. I just get a 'web page unavailable ' message.
I have tried the diagnose connection problems but that doesn't do anything.

I was told of a winsock fix which I tried but this hasnt helped either

Does anyone have any ideas - I cant update any antivirus as I cant connect to the internet

Would be grateful for any help.

Go to Start, Settings, Network Connections and find the NIC that you used for ethernet wired. Right click and choose Enable, it should configure itself from there, choose wireless NIC and if you don't have a wireless setup at home disconnect from any network it auto-connects, set wireless NOT to auto-connect to any network if you don't have a wireless setup at home.
