BSOD IRQL not less or equal message

Hello
After completing an "in place" reinstallation of Windows XP, Setup resulted in aq BLOD IRQL not less or equal message while attempting to start up Windows. All subsequent attempts to start windows, either from the hard drive or the reinstall disk result in the same message. Windows is completely inaccesswible, so I'm unable to download anything that might fix it. This includes attempts from the recovery console, safe mode, etc. What can (I do?

Remove memory sticks. Try booting with one, then two etc. One may be bad.
As always, take precautions of turning off power, reducing static electricity etc before opening case. Refer to Owner manual, or download one if you do not have.
