Hey forum,
I have a athlon xp 2800+ cpu in my rig right now. i have it currently overclocked to 2266mHz right now. Thats the max i could push it without it becoming unstable.

I have read up and come across people that say they have had these pushing out 2.5gHz.
So i was just wondering if anyone could direct me into the right path of pushing this CPU a little harder

Here is my specs.
Antec case
Shuttle AN-35N 400 Ultra motherboard
AMD athlon Xp 2800+
500 watt psu
Radeon HD 4670 1gb agp graphics
80gb hard drive
running windows vista 32 bit

As of right now as im typing this, my meter says my cpu temp is 53 degrees Celcius and my case is at 37 deg Celcius

Thanks in advance!
:)

I happened to be looking for guidance on how much further I could push the volts on my xp2800 and I found your post. I'm not the only one still overclocking an XP2800+ :hello:

Just first off, are you cooling that with a better than stock cooler? Your temps are high. You need to find a used socket A/462 high end cooler if you want to push that any further. And make sure your case is well ventilated.

I have mine now at 190x12.5 with load temps of no higher than 40 C. It's got a Zalman CNPS7000 Cu cooling it and it's not in a case. I think this particular chip happens to run cooler than most. It's from a production run that's known to be better than other production runs. I raised the voltage of the cpu by 0.1v and it is 100% stable (it can run Prime95 "blend test" for 24+ hours without errors).

But unless you can get a better cooler for it, I would not raise the speed. It could well be at the reasonable limit especially when considering your load temp.

What PSU are you using?

Been an overclocker since the Old Durons. Intel wise since the first pentiums 100/133. Now, ussually the AMDs can take quite a pounding! Now, what RAM are you using ? DDR 400 ?

While we wait for barbarousbeef to realize he got a replies finally, just quickly, with my xp2800 load temps of never higher than 40 C (some @home apps are steady at 36 C), is my cpu pretty much a great candidate for trying vcore of 1.85v? I've read that with xp2800 >1.75v should only be done on water, but my air cooled temps are so low. Even if the sensor is off by a few degrees, it looks like I have good margin below 50 C. My xp2800 does DC crunching 24/7, so I don't want to subject it to a voltage that it can't take for very long going 24/7, so I don't know whether to try it. By the way, I can increase volts in 0.1v increments only. I have DDR466, so I could exceed 200 FSB @1:1 if the cpu can do it. It's currently at 190x12.5 and 1.75 vcore and Prime95 stable.

Cheers
