Samsung HD204UI F4 Problems

My hard drive recently broke so I decided to buy this one as a replacement. Only problem is I need to update the firmware before using it because the old one isn't very good or something?

I've tried burning the new firmware to a disc but it doesn't boot and just displays please use a "proper boot device". I then tried to do it with a USB stick instead and I just get a flashing cursor in the top left of my screen. In both cases I set the device I wanted to use as the 1st device but I just can't seem to get it to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. It sounds like you just copied the firmware file(s) to the USB stick or CD without making the device bootable.

The following page describes how to make your flash drive bootable.

    HP Drive Key Boot Utility:

You also need to temporarily reconfigure your SATA controller in your BIOS for legacy IDE mode.
