Hi everyone wishing u all a happy new year.I am planning to buy a new cpu and mobo for my non stop gaming needs.I already have Sapphire Radeon 4890 1GB GDDR5 graphic card and is very awesome so i wont be changing my graphic card for say another 2 years. But i have a crappy mobo and processor right now that is intel 945G mobo and Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 (1.8 GHZ) it sucks man in all games i get bottlenecked coz of this.

So i am planning to go ATI/AMD Build with Phenom II x4 965 and MSI GD-70

OR
I am planning to go ATI/INTEL Build with core I5 750 or if i can afford core I7 920 but mobo i am no sure coz core i7 mobo are very costly.

So guys can u suggest me a very good processor and mobo for my gaming i want to play any game maxed out with no lag at all.

Oh i forgot i game at 1440x900 max resolution.I know this is not good resolution but i will buy 1920x1200 monitor later on coz monitor is not a perfomance issue much.

Both platforms will gibe you the same performance you won't notice a difference in gaming especially at resolutions like that and it also depends on your GPU....you will be fine with both platforms

Go for i5-750 especially if you are in the US.

FYI, i5-750 system is actually cheaper than PII-955 if you have a Microcenter nearby.

Thanx for the advice andy but sorry i am not in US, I am in India and here phenom II 955 is cheaper than core i5 750. Can u tell which mobo is best for my 955?

You will NOT notice any difference between x16 and x8 unless you are CFing the current top GFX, the HD5970.

The performance difference if any is definitely NOT worth the premium.

However, you could get the UD5P if you really want a double x16.

BTW, the performance difference is something like 2 or 3FPS.

Wow thanx a lot andy didnt knew that crossfire 8x is also gr8 for gaming and 3-5fps is not worth money very nice advice thank you i will go for GA-MA790XT-UD4P as you suggested its a very good mobo can u tell me wat speed ram should i buy like ddr3 1333mhz or 1600mhz?

Get whichever has the best cost-performance ratio.

My advice
1. Make sure you have 4GB of RAM. Two 2GB DIMMs are favorable to ensure you can use the tightest timings.
2. Make sure you pick a branded product of at least DDR3-1333 speed and timings of CL8 or faster.
3. Go for a faster product if you find DDR3-1600 memory that provides the same timings as your preferred DDR3-1333 RAM kit at only a little price premium. Don’t do it if you could get a faster processor for less or the same extra money.

Sorry for breaking you both
gamer1291, you asked will it affect my fps?
I don't think you will notice any performance difference
Good Luck

It will only be significant in very little situations.

hi there gamer1291... i'm from india too.. and i'm building a new system for my home theatre... the amd platform is really good... u can also look for asus mobos... even they are good...

but if u can spend a little more i guess a core i5 setup would be nice... even though in games it wouldn't make much of a difference it would in other applications..

Isn't Intel actually cheaper than AMD in India? I heard this from a member from there.

@gamer1291...

benchmarks have shown that gaming is slightly better in core i5 than core i7... and plz don't bother about hyper threading... there are not many applications that make use of this...

see all u need to see is the total cost of the processor + mobo...
the amd package is equally good... it all depends on how much u can spend and brand loyalty...

there was some link here that showed all applications are suited for phenom and what others for the core i5... u can also select the processor based on that...

There is only one comment I can make. Don’t buy the 965, instead buy the 955. There made the same way but the multiplier on the 965 is set higher stock. Considering they are both black edition chips the multiplier is unlocked and you can set the 955 to perform the same as the 965. This should also save you some money. If you can find the 955 with the c3 stepping I would go with that one.
