I just bought a gigabyte MA785GM-US2H and paired it with an Athlon 2 x2 240 processor in my old case and old power supply with new sata hard drive. The BIOS won't recognize the hard drive; ergo I can't re-install Windows XP. Any ideas

3 possibilities come to mind

1) bad sata cable.
2) sata ports not enabled in bios.
3) bad hard drive.

On the same train of thought as Kidhorn the sata drive controller in bios should be set for IDE mode with XP unless you have ACHI drivers extracted.
