PCI 2.0 16x confusion. HELP!

I've been checking on newegg and saw some random MBs.

1. Some say: "4x PCI 2.0 16x", but then next to it "4 (@ x16/x8/x4/x8)"

Does it mean they has only one PCI 2.0 16x and the rest are x8,x4,x8?

2 .Some MBs say: "2-Way SLI x16/x16." and cheaper.

Does it mean they fully support 2x PCI x16?

3. what happens when 2 VGAs (both 2.0 x16) run on "x16/x8/x4/x8," and "2-Way SLI x16/x16"?

Will "x16/x8/x4/x8" reduce the power of these 2 VGAs?

Any help is appreciated.

    hey there,

im not too sure but i have my sli in 2 x16 but i have heard a majority of boards having one x16
and x8.....maore likly the pci slots are x8 but everything might be solved with some driver updates
  2. I have both the Evga X58 SLI LE which 4x PCI 2.0 16x running @ x16/x8/x4/x8.... For a dual graphic setup, I use the X16 and the first X8 slots... If you want to do a triple, you bypass the X4 and use the last X8 slot for a triple SLI setup... The X58 chipset has it's limitations...Note that the X58 I/O hub only supports 36 PCI Express lanes. That means that you can have 2 X16 slots for graphics. Alternatively, if the motherboard has the proper physical slots, the board can have 4 X16 physical slots, for four graphics cards. But each graphics card will only have 8 lanes of PCIe 2.0 bandwidth. A three-slot system can have one X16 slot with full X16 support, while the other two X16 physical slots are really X8 electrically. The difference in performance with cards installed in a X8 slot compared to a X16 is barely noticeable, so i wont worry about that if i were you...
