Can not change resloution

hi there im new here so i guess ill start off saying hi XD
well im just gonna dive into the matter cause its driving me up the wall
so im a bit of an old computers junkie, got myself an ibm thinkpad R30, looks neat and all so i started it up, it was slow as hell, so being the computer genius that i am i decided to format the c drive clean and install a new windows 2000 on it :( *only cause i like to have it run on what it was on already* so anyway i got through the format got through the installation, got into windows and there i had it, windows on 16 bit colour along with 340*400 resloution ... or somthing like that, anyway so i searched around got myself a new audio and video and bios drivers, and the audio worked and all then i tried to change the resloution to 16 bit and atleast 800*600 ... but the screen always goes blank when i do that ... HELP ME PLEASE

Windows 2000
display- Trident Video accelerator Cyberblade Ai1 AGP 5.8 , ... 8 mg
64 mgs of ram ... its an antique XD
