I don't see why you couldn't. Just make sure you have the correct power connector and SATA cable and you should be good to go.

Not usually. You would need a SATA power connector (you can get converter cables if needed) and a SATA data cable. Now that I'm looking at the spec sheet on the computer, I don't see any SATA connectors on the mobo. Is this correct?

right , the dell was bought in 2005 and it seems that adding an ssd
is going to be more complicated than i thought,

I think you might need this: SIIG SC-SA0512-S1 IDE to SATA HDD Adapter to convert from PCI to SATA.

Maybe time to upgrade??
