How do i record from my TIVO to my laptop?

Take the RF output of the tivo to the video in port of the computer. Play
Tivo. Record on computer. So, you need a video card with an RF in port and
recording software that should have come with the card, and then an RG-6
coax cable with RF conncetors on both ends.

I've seen 3 ways to get the clip from tivo onto a computer

1) Use some cables to hit 'play' on the tivo and 'record' on a tv
capture card on the computer.

2) Hack the tivo, using the digital channel changer cord(I
believe) to connect tivo and computer, so you can copy the clip
straight off the tivo bit-for-bit. You have a laptop, so this
might be a good option for you. I hear it's fairly simple to do.
Hit google for a bunch of places that give instructions

3) Pick up a usb network adapter. Mine came from staples or
circuit city, I don't recall which one. Download tivo desktop
from the tivo website. Use tivo desktop to grab the clip
bit-for-bit from tivo to computer. Use graphedit to convert the
..tivo file into an .mpg, or whatever you need. Hit google with
'tivo graphedit convert' and just about any of those links can
walk you through it. This is the method I use, because the
graphedit method is then useful for all kinds of other
conversions, it is the swiss army knife of audio/video tools.
