Hello all, just putting together a gaming system on Newegg for my GF. Trying to put together the best performance system for the buck.
Wanna see what you guys think before I click the order button.
Purchase Date: Very soon
System usage: Gaming, Internet, Video Encoding
Parts Not Required: Display, Keyboard, Mouse
Preferred Site: Newegg.com
Parts Preferences: No major preferences, went with the Athlon II X4 because I think it is the best chip for $100
Overclocking: No
Display Resolution: 1920x1080
And I'd step up to the Samsung Spinpoint f3 500gb HDD, much faster than the Western Digital Blue, 7 bucks more for a faster drive and 180gigs found here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822152181
Or get the Western Digital Black if you're a Western Digital kinda guy.

Do you intend to crossfire 5770's? 750 watts seems a bit much.
It is a possibility in the future. I got the PSU just cause it ends up being so cheap after the combo deal and MIR - $54.95 for a 750w 80+ modular PSU is pretty nuts.
------------------------------Core i7 920, Cooler Master V8, EVGA X58, 6 GB OCZ DDR3-1600, EVGA GTX 275, WD Caviar Black 640GB, Corsair 850w, Antec Nine Hundred Two

I see, that is a pretty wicked deal, I'd go ahead and stick with it then. Although I still recommend changing out that WD Blue for the Samsung. I'd recommend Ripjaws for your memory, but I don't think you'll really be doing any overclocking, will you?

More than likely not. If I did, it would probably come with ordering a new HSF instead of the stock cooler. Although, how good are Athlon chips for OC'ing on stock cooling? I have a V8 on my i7, but thats cause they run pretty hot.

I'm not really sure what to expect from the athlon, locked multiplier, but I'd say you could probably get to 3.0ghz just by raising the FSB and the stock HSF should be more than adequate, but that performance difference would probably be negligible for your girlfriend, the games she intends to play aren't particularly demanding are they?
