Your first problen is that this is the wrong forum. Now that I said that-is it a jumper-configured modem or a PNP modem?

The problem is that you are not loading the driver at startup. PNP modems are not loaded by selecting the "modems" icon in Control panel, they are loaded like other PNP cards. Go into device manager, remove whatever is listed as your modem (probably "unkown device" or "pci communications device" ), then click refresh. It will redetect your modem and ask for the disk. Direct it to wherever your driver disk is, and to the folder the driver is in if necessary. If you do not know how to do all that, take it to a shop, they probably will only charge you the bench fee, as it can be done in two minutes.

I know how to install PNP hardware thats not may main problem. When the wizard comes up it asks for 'Windows Modem Install Disk' I have no idea what that is and it wont let me install the drivers that came with the modem. When i try to insert the CD that contains the old drivers and install them that way it wont detect the modem at all

Remember the three R's-Remove, Refresh, and bRows for the driver when ask.
