I'm upgrading from a core 2 duo e4500 2.2 gig to either an e8400 or a quad 8200, and I was curious which will actually be better for gaming. Also, will I really notice much of a difference from what I have now?

I've seen some stats that show that the e8400 performs much better with games. It's really a question of:

Would you rather be running many things at once, but not with maximum speed, or would you rather run 1-3 things at once, faster?

If you pick the latter, go for the e8400. And yes, if you pick the e8400, you WILL notice a difference. :)

The e8400 is obviously the superior gaming chip especially when overclocked.

Thx guys, I'm gonna go with the 8400 I just found on sale after all. :)

If you can get it for less than $140, go for it. Otherwise, just get a quad core. E8400s at stock price is way overpriced.

Eh, found it for $144, anyway. Was the lowest price I could find, and only $4 over the q8200 I found.

Did you already buy it? Do you live in the US?

If you haven't bought it yet, then here's a Q8300 @ 2.5GHz for $150 w/ free shipping & no taxes, only $6 more than the E8400. This will OC much better than the Q8200. If OCed, it will demolish the E8400.

Yeah, I bought it already, but thats ok because my mobo bios doesnt have the ability to OC anyway.
