Adding an external drive

I bought a Seagate USB external drive with 2T memory and plugged it into my HP f1523h computer. A message was on my screen announcing it was installing it.
1) How do I know it is installed?
2) How can I move a C hard drive program I am working on into the Seagate USB external drive and work on it from there?
