I quite like the new feature for driveways in Nightlife.

Couple of things concern though...

It seems impossible to be able to have both a basement, and a
driveway/garage as one structure. A driveway has to go over flat land.
No two ways about it.

I was trying to design a Tim the Toolman Taylor Home Improvement
House... maybe Im missing something, but I hate cheats too. So... Maybe
that's where Im going wrong.

There seems to be a rather pathetic requirement to have driveways on the
left of the house. You can have them on the right...

Unless there's a cheat im missing.

Which I don't want.

Other than that, seems pretty cool so far.

You can have them on the right, you just need a lot of room. Which is hard
to existing lots (most of mine were not big enough), but doable.

You might be able to build a basement by building the driveway first and
then digging the hole underneath it. Just a thought - I might try it out.

It's because cars drive on the right, and so carpools etc. arrive on
the right side of the house. If your lot is wide enough, you can have
driveways on the right, but not far right, because it requires such a
big turning radius and entry point...

I am building on a palace right now and my garage IS in the basement.
Well..., visually it's the basement, but it is level with the road level. I
am not very happy with the arrangement that the garage path can't be sloped.
My own home's garage path is sloped. And why I can't have a garage that is
entered through other direction other than from the front?

Anyways, can we have a two-car garage?

You can but you need to leave at least one square around the driveway
footprint. You can then put a doorway in. Note, one of the Maxis house
has it. I always find it usefully to check them out as you can get
ideas on what you can do with the new build tools/items.

Yep, one of my mansions has three garages in a row.

You can use terrain paints to make outside paths. If you're careful you can
produce quite a carefully controlled straight edge to them and on flat bits
you can use floor tiles to make a stencil. The Maxis terrain paints are
just ground textures (useful) but there are some really nice terrain paints
available on the net - I've got some great flowers for filling up holes in
flower beds or for making them a more natural shape and some good paths too.

Thanks for the reply, though I don't know how that answered my question....
I've used terrain paint before for my houses, but not as driveways....

That's not what I meant.... I mean can the car makes a turn and park at the
side of the house? The game wouldn't let me rotate the driveway at all....

Got you now and no you can't. Beacuse only the front of lot has to be
connected to a road and cars still only appear at the front.

Sorry - you said 'garage path', not driveway. I thought you meant the path
from the garage to the house. Paths, to me, are much smaller than
driveways - maybe that's an English thing.

Anyway, I don't think the driveways could be sloped as they are an object
with a rigid 3d mesh.

Ah, you are right. It's really sad we can't do that....
