Thanks for the tip. I tried that, but I don't know what sound card is
in the laptop. How can I find that out. I see something like
NeoMagic NMA2, 16bit stero audio, built-in OPLS.

unfortunately that is the name of the sound card on your system .
neomagic does not offer end user support . they say the company that
supplied your system is your source for drivers . if the driver i
suggested from gateway does not work i am not sure what to suggest .
