Upgrading RAM

I was wanting to upgrade from 2GB of ram to 4GB of ram, and was originally going to buy all new ram, but I see that prices have went up. The RAM I currently have is no longer available on newegg, but if I match the timings and voltages can I use a different brand safely without any performance decrease?

Probably. Just keep your ram matched to each pair of color coded slots. Sometimes the speed will default to a lower setting if all slots are filled. It's not a big issue; you won't notice the difference with most applications.
