Hi guys, I'm looking to purchase components within the next 2 weeks (UK). My budget is £1500.

Things I have already decided on:

I will use on board optical out to my HiFi DAC so no soundcard or speakers needed and neither are monitors included in the budget.

- graphics ATI 5870 (But which version?).

- Thermaltake DH103 HTPC case.

So, what else do you recommend? I'll be using it for "high end" gaming and work. Work requires three monitors which I already have as mentioned (Dell 2209WA).

What kind of work?

Also, why the HTPC case? If this is going to be a "high end" gaming rig as you said, you shoud be looking at a "high end" gaming case instead.

I don't want a huge tower in my flat, hence a HTPC case. It doesn't come with a PSU, so I need one of those too. Work involves running multiple trading platforms...that's why I run three monitors. The 5870 apparently can run three monitors?

Yes, but it has to be DVI + DVI + Display Port or DVI + HDMI + Display Port. Eitherway you'll need a DP monitor or purchase one of those active DP to DVI adapters which are quite expensive (~ $100 :ouch: ), sadly the cheaper passive one's apparently don't work.

As for the case, you don't have to buy a "huge" full tower case, there are a lot of smaller mid tower cases out there. Gaming cases are better suited cooling wise for this kind of rig and you'll have a lot more space to work with, not to mention you can get a decent one for 1/3 of the price of that HTPC case you want :??: Also, the 5870 is a big card, not sure about it's exact dimensions but it doesn't fit in some mid tower cases, so I'm not entirely sure if it will fit into that HTPC case.
