Does it matter which way the jumper block faces?

I have an old IDE hard drive and after taking off the jumper block, I forgot which way it should be facing. I know which pins it is suppose to sit on for master or slave BUT i do not know which way it should face. It fits on flipped both ways, so I am not sure if there is a correct way which side of the block should face?

It doesn't matter. A jumper just electrically connects the two pins.

It's not the orientation of the jumper that matters, it's which pins it connects. As long as it's connecting the right pins then any orientation will work just fine.
