Speaker hook up gateway hdmi monitor

I have a Dell Mini10 netbook hooke up to a Gateway DTSS2210 monitor via HDMI cable. Problem is I get no sound from either the PCs audio out jack or the monitors HDMI audio out jack. Is is a set-up problem?

Check the sound control panel, and make sure it is set up to have the default device to the HDMI port. This will get audio to the monitor. Try selecting all the different devices in the sound control panel, 1 by 1, if that doesn't work.

LOL and make sure the mute button isn't activated and your volume is turned up(sorry, sometimes the obvious is what's wrong)
