Help on user environment windows xp

Hello,
while on the iternet,we had a power failier.now every time i switch the computer on.it says cannot find user profile.it then logs on to a temp profile.problem is every time i switch off,i lose anything that was done.i know the regestry is somehow corrupt.how do i fix this.i use winxp pro.please help. Run Windows restore to date prior to the outage.
