I recently bought a custom desktop and decided to save some cash by not buying an operating system; friends of mine at school can get programs for free from the college, so we got Windows XP for free. Now I have XP installed, but it won't connect to the internet. The ethernet cord is plugged in, we know the router/cord work fine, and under network connections it shows the connection and says it is connected. If I click repair it gets some error message saying the TCP/IP cannot be determined.

As the thread name says, Windows hasn't been "activated" yet. It only has about 30 days left to be activated so if someone can help sooner rather than later it will be greatly appreciated. It does have an option to call to get Windows activated, but I'd rather save that for later, as anyone who has talked to Microsoft help before will surely understand :P
